I want to sing and I have the music already recorded. Can I?
Sure! Just bring your music and we'll load it
into a session, set a mic, check the levels and
you're ready to sing.
I have the lyrics to my song but I don't have any music yet. What do I need to do?
This all depends on the kind of music you're
wanting to create:
- If you need live musicians then we can help you find them.
- If you're recording Folk/Acoustic/Bluegrass etc... then Chris can play most instruments for your song.
I have lyrics to a song I want to record but no melody yet. What do you recommend?
In this case you could either:
- compose a melody for your song
- ask a musical friend to help you compose it
- check into hiring a producer. Please click here to read about what a producer's function is.
How can I save money in the studio?
- Be prepared when you get here.
- Have all the arrangements worked out prior to arrival (making charts helps a lot).
- Have all songs well rehearsed when you arrive.
- Know your songs inside and out. From start to finish know what goes where.
- Decide if the daily or hourly rate is right for you.
- If you are a group make sure everyone is ready to record.
- Have fun. Nothing makes a session go by smoother than enjoying it!!
Are your rates competitive with other local studios?
Yes, our rates are very competitive with other
local studios. If you, or your band, have your
material well rehearsed and you choose the basic
plan then it's quite possible that you could
finish an entire CD within one day. Considering
the high quality of the recording equipment this
is extremely competitive with other studios. Our
Studio Rates page
details everything, for in studio recording,
so there are no hidden costs. Keep in mind
that services such as editing, mixing, and
vocal tuning are time consuming. Although we
recommend that you use these services it is
certainly not a requirement. You are in
control of your project. Please feel free to
contact us to discuss which plan is best for
you.
What is editing, mixing, and vocal tuning?
- Editing is basically correcting any mistakes a musician, or vocalist, makes in the recording. These include timing mistakes, wrong notes, etc...
- Mixing is taking all the pieces of a song (instruments and vocals) and blending them together. This process uses effects such as reverb, EQ, and compression. It’s a complicated process and for more information check out this link: Wikipedia article about mixing.
- Vocal tuning is a process of making your vocals sound great and match the instruments pitch perfectly. In almost every professional recording you hear there has been vocal tuning applied.
Do you provide mastering services?
Studio 607 can do some basic mastering tasks. If
you just want to give your CD to others and are
not planning a release then we should be able to
accommodate you. However, for projects you plan
to release for sale we recommend a studio
dedicated to the task. Mastering is a VERY
complicated process and uses extremely
specialized gear. For these jobs we usually
recommend Bill Wolf to our clients
as we find he is wonderful in any genre.
